May 15, 2022

Synopsis of YB Zuraida’s Speech on Women Pioneers of Baitul Maqdis in Instanbul
May 27, 2022
I was given the honour to deliver a speech at the 7th Conference of the Women Pioneers of Baitul Maqdis, Istanbul today. It is a congregation of global women pioneers – leaders, professionals, academicians and activists – to continue voicing out concerns about the injustices faced by our fellow Palestinian brothers and sisters by the Israeli regime.
Day by day, more series of violence and barbaric acts were displayed by the Israeli regime. Not just civilians, children are bombed and our Palestinian sisters are also currently incarcerated in Israeli prison. Their only 'crime' is resisting Israeli occupation, which is never against the international law.
Recently, the world was also shocked by the tragic assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh, a brave Palestinian journalist when she was reporting on an Israeli raid. This tragedy was not just an attack against journalism, but it was also to hide the fact that Israel was founded on the heinous crime of ethnic cleansing.
Since our establishment, Malaysia’s support has always been for the Palestine. Our stands and demands are consistent with UN Resolution 3236 (1974) – Palestine has full right to its independence and national sovereignty. For years we have called the UN to uphold various resolutions, but still, the very opposite of the resolutions are carried out. Malaysia finds this situation utterly unacceptable and grossly unjust.
This is why I consider conferences like this as critical to push the agenda of change. We, women from all across the globe, must continue to speak against any form of injustice and defend the rights of the oppressed. May Allah give us strength in our struggle for justice.
