The success of synchronised-swimming team Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Nur Dhabitah Sabri at the World Championships proves that women are capable in making significant contributions to the country, said the Foundation of Women Community in Sports Malaysia (FOWCUS).
“Hopefully, the success of winning medals at this world championship will inspire them to win more medals at other competitions in the future as well as raise the status of women in sports in this country,” its president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said in a statement.
Two days ago, New Straits Times reported Pandelela and Nur Dhabitah secured a bronze medal in the women’s 10m platform synchro event at the World Championships in Budapest.
Pandelela-Dhabitah put up a much-improved showing from the preliminaries as they tallied a total of 298.68 points to finish third in the final.
It was Pandelela’s third successive world meet medal in the synchro event. She won a bronze with Cheong Jun Hoong in 2017 and grabbed a silver with Leong Mun Yee in 2019.
Heaping laurels on the duo’s achievement, Zuraida said that Pandelela’s victory did not come easy as she put in a lot of effort to achieve the glory she is enjoying now.
